From her early work as a radio journalist in her native Germany to the documentary work Jesus Loves You which is screening at multiple festivals including the 2008 Berlinale Film Festival and this year’s HotDocs, Michaela is passionate about capturing the challenges and conflicts of our modern world and our history through unique personal stories. Her experience ranges from directing segments for the ongoing German daily reality show My Wedding to feature-length cinema movies. She has filmed in France, Turkey, Greece, Sweden, Germany, and Africa.
In 2007, the two-part documentary Disgustingly Healthy that she co-directed with Robert Cibis won the Ekotop Prize. In 2008 her documentary Between the Lines - about the untold story of German-American internment during World War II - will air on German Public Television and ARTE. She is currently in postproduction on her personal documentary film My Death Cleaner, a feature-length film which takes us on a haunting visual trip through New York’s underbelly.
