RAISIN BOMBER FILMS is the American-European producing team of Elizabeth Elson and Michaela Kirst. We develop and produce high-quality television programming and feature-length documentary films on subjects of social and cultural significance.
Our films reveal the depth and complexity of the human experience by illuminating the surprising spaces where the personal meets the political and the everyday encounters the exceptional. We take pride in crafting well-told, visually-rich documentaries that bring a unique perspective to their subjects and engage their audiences with character-driven, entertaining story-telling.
We named our company after the Western Allies’ aircraft which brought in supplies to the western half of Berlin during the Berlin Blockade in 1949. One of the first German-American partnerships of the modern era, the Raisin Bombers symbolized cross-cultural cooperation. Pilots dropping the supplies spontaneously began to throw sweets out their windows to Berlin’s children, and both the American and German confectionary industries soon donated candy to the cause while civilian volunteers made parachutes out of handkerchiefs for the delivery.
